On special occasions, I usually opt take a break and disappear from the daily routine of adult life. So last month, my husband and I decided to take a drive to Daylesford and Hepburn Springs to celebrate our anniversary.
Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are neighbouring towns 117km northwest of Melbourne. Approximately around an hour and forty minutes drive or so. It is best known as a holiday towns which is located within a region that contains Australia’s largest concentration of natural mineral springs.
With no particular itinerary in mind, we packed our weekend getaway bags, jumped in the car and took the scenic drive up north west passing by endless views of greenery and rolling hills which reminded me of Tuscany.
If pure rest and relaxation is what you seek to achieve for a weekend getaway, then here is what you can see and do around Daylesford and Hepburn Springs for two days.
Spend a day at the Bathhouse and Spa
Loosen those tight muscles and melt away those stresses by taking a dip in a mineral rich spa or bath. There are a number of bathhouses and spa around the area but we chose Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa as this was also where we decided to stay for the night.
Stay in
Spend a night or two in a villa and enjoy the art of completely doing nothing, other than lazing around, enjoying the warmth and the crisp crackling sound of the fireplace, a bottle of wine and a good TV show.
Lunch at the Boathouse
There are a few good restaurants around the area, but we chose to score a table at the The Boathouse Restaurant, mainly because of its location and stunning view, but when our dishes were served–the food did not disappoint!
Visit Lake Daylesford
When was the last time you sat beside a lake, under a tree, and marvelled at the beauty of what surrounds you?
Visit the Daylesford Convent
There is also something for the highly cultured or for those wanting to be cultured. The Convent Gallery offers a number of exhibits of art works by established and emerging local and international artists.
Our highly cultured palates were craving for warm scones and coffee so we never made it past the convent’s cafe.
Grocery Run
Stop by the Hepburn General Store to stack up on some goodies for a picnic or some take away snacks for the drive back home. They have the best sandwiches I have ever tasted, I easily gobbled up three!!!
Visit Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm
This must be one of my most favourite place to go. This Swiss Italian farm boasts of European Styled garden and old stone buildings. The lavender fields are at it’s wildest and at peak during the summer season — definitely a MUST to visit! You will fall in love!!!
Aahh, Happiness!!!
